Dr. James (Skip) Fix:
Dr. Skip Fix was born in Houston at St. Joseph's Hospital, like many Houstonians in the 1950s, but he grew up in North Dallas. He attended Texas A&M University as an undergraduate and earned his BS in microbiology. He graduated Texas A&M Veterinary School in 1978, where he met his wife, suturing her horse's wounds in the veterinary school clinic. After a year in Miami, Florida working on race horses, like Alydar the Triple Crown runner up, he moved to Northern California and worked in a small animal and equine clinics. In 1982 he and his wife moved back to Houston where he became one of the founding partners of West Houston Veterinary Medical Associates in 1984. In 1998 he took ownership of Nottingham Animal Clinic, at our current location.
Dr. Fix has a special interest in surgery, ophthalmology as well as radiographic and ultrasound imaging. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Fix has been involved and competed in canine obedience and flyball. His recent dog, a rescue Doberman named "Buddy", came to him with a fractured rear leg and wounds which he repaired. Sadly, "Buddy" recently passed away after a struggle with lung cancer. He is greatly missed both in Dr. Fix's home and here in the clinic. His home is kept in line by the four cats of the household that are trying to teach "Dee", the new Doberman, the "cat and dog rules" of the house. "Dee" has currently achieved his Open Obedience CDX title and competing in agility Excellent level classes.
His long time hobbies are weightlifting and restoring and racing cars, particularly Pontiacs and his 1978 Trans Am, which he bought new upon graduating veterinary school. His wife, Sheri, is involved with dressage horses. His son, Michael, continued the Aggie tradition by graduating as a third generation of Fix Aggies in Industrial Engineering. He is currently working for Eaton/Cooper Industries in Milwaukee, WI transferred from Ventura, CA. His daughter, Melissa, graduated from Texas State with a degree in Psychology .Melissa then graduated nursing program at Texas A&M at Corpus Christi with a 4.0 and is at Seton Hospital in Austin.
